Is face yoga the secret to younger-looking eyes?

Millions have tuned in for TikTok tutorials on face yoga and eye yoga, but do facial exercises for the eyes really work? We look at the evidence around the benefits of face yoga for the eyes and share some of our favourite face-toning techniques.

You know that yoga improves physical strength, but could it also enhance skin strength? Scroll on to discover our favourite face-toning techniques.

Facial yoga exercise for anti ageing

Forget the downward dog; face yoga and eye yoga are the TikTok wellbeing trends everyone is talking about.

Raved about by beauty YouTubers and Redditors as a natural alternative to a facelift, some media articles have heralded face yoga as better than Botox[i]. But what is face yoga? And is it really the best way to rewind the clock?

Well, face yoga and eye yoga both involve a series of facial exercises; eye yoga is thought to support healthy vision by strengthening the muscles in the eye, while face yoga flexes the muscles in your skin to encourage a supple and healthy appearance.

One example of a facial yoga exercise for the eyes is to place two fingers on each of your temples and gently press whilst opening and closing your eyes rapidly.

Another face yoga exercise for the eyes involves looking up and down ten times, keeping your eyes closed the entire time.

Dedicated face yogis credit their skin-firm appearance to a regimented facial yoga exercise routine, but others dispute whether facial exercise can truly tone your skin.

That said, some evidence shows that facial exercise can help tone the skin. According to an article published in the Financial Times, a 2018 study examined whether a group of women aged 27+ saw any benefits from performing face exercises every day for 8 weeks. The FT reports that by the end of the 20-week study, the group had collectively lowered their average age and showed signs of improved cheek fullness[i].

Natural Eye Creams to complement eye yoga

Are you looking for a natural eye cream to complement your eye yoga or face yoga routine?

For instantly firmer, fresher feeling skin around the eyes, you can’t go wrong with our firming eye creams.

Rich in rejuvenating plant actives, our organic eye creams are the perfect way to support your eye yoga routine and tone your skin without irritating the delicate eye area.

Those who want a gentle eye cream for sensitive eyes should choose our scent-free eye Cream, but if you want immediate results, you may be best choosing our Age Defy+ Line Eraser Serum.

Visibly firming, this face yoga eye serum targets fine lines around the eyes in just 15 minutes using elasticity-boosting Baicalin and Sea Holly Stem Cell Extract, which help to enhance skin hydration by as much as 95%.

Alternatives to face yoga

While we can’t say for sure that eye or face yoga will improve your vision or fight your eye wrinkles, we know of some tremendous skin-toning facial techniques you can try at home.

Tapping

Tapping your skin is a simple tip that can give your skin glow a natural boost. Not only does it help your skin absorb your moisturisers, eye creams and serums, but it boosts your skin vibrancy by increasing your circulation and lymphatic flow.

Try applying your skincare using tapping motions and see if you notice the difference in your skin.

Eye Serum

Set your sights on toned, rejuvenated eyes with our fabulously firming eye serum.. Made to tone not to tingle! This gentle eye serum contains Bacillus Ferment Postbiotics which sink deep to plump up skin hydration by 26% in just 1 hour. These powerful Postbiotics have also been shown to increase radiance by as much as 47% after 28 days of consistent use!

Gua Sha

Another facial exercise for puffy eyes that we rate highly is Gua Sha facial massage.

An ancient facial massage technique performed using a Gua Sha stone, Gua Sha can be performed every day and helps to drain puffiness away through the lymphatic system.

Using a Gua Sha for puffy eyes and eye bags is easy. Create slip with our antiaging facial oil, then gently sweep the Gua Sha under both eyes, taking care not to press on the skin too hard.

The shape of the massage tool is ideal for a facial massage. I have seen great results around the eye area. The colour is so pretty giving you a sense of relaxation whilst using it. I would highly recommend this product. Adriana K
