Are you wondering why mascara causes your eyes to itch and water? Do you think you have a mascara allergy? You’ve come to the right place.
While we are best known for organic skin care, one of our top sellers is our natural mascara for sensitive eyes.
Hailed a game changer by those who have experienced allergies to mascara, scroll on to find out what makes it the best mascara for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers.
Why does mascara irritate my eyes?
The eyes are amongst one of the most sensitive areas of the body so it’s not surprising that many people find that mascara irritates their eyes.
Some people with sensitive eyes or who use contact lenses can be particularly prone to finding mascara makes their eyes feel itchy or sore, whilst others have an allergy to one or more ingredients commonly used in mascara.
If your eyes are prone to feeling sore and irritated when you wear make-up, you may prefer to use a mineral mascara, which is better tolerated by most people.
We formulate our natural mascara to be as gentle as possible, so you can enjoy beautiful lashes without the discomfort of itchy, irritated eyes.
What mascara is best for sensitive eyes?
Considered one of the UK’s best mascaras for sensitive eyes, our Volumising Mascara gives great lash definition through earth mineral pigments and natural ingredients that are well tolerated and have a low rate of allergies. These include conditioning Sunflower Oil, water-repellent Beeswax and nourishing Vitamin E.
As we know that preservatives can be problematic for those prone to sensitive eyes, we keep their use to a minimum, allowing more room for our plant-derived cellulose spheres, which thicken to intensify volume and enhance the eyes.
And, of course, there are no parabens, petrochemicals, or phthalates in the formula, and there is no ethyl alcohol either! Just natural, non-irritating ingredients that can be used by even the most sensitive eyes.

3 tips for applying mascara to easily irritated eyes
If your eyes are sensitive, these mascara application tips can help you to enjoy volumised lash length without irritation.
1. COAT THE TIPS AND NOT THE ROOTS
Applying your mascara close to the lash roots can irritate sensitive eyes. Instead, gently move your mascara wand in a zigzag motion to coat only the middle and tips of your lashes. This lifts the lashes without interacting with the root to reduce the risk of your mascara from irritating the delicate skin around your eyes.
2. CHANGE YOUR MASCARA EVERY 3-6 MONTHS
Your mascara can harbour bacteria, so it is advisable to replace it regularly. It is also important not to share your mascara wand with others, as this can pass on bacteria and spread eye infections.
3. REMOVE YOUR MASCARA AT NIGHT
Sleeping in your eye make-up can dry out the skin around your eyes, making them more susceptible to irritation and soreness, so always remove your mascara at night. To avoid irritation, use a natural eye make-up remover for sensitive eyes
Our Scent Free Cleanser & Make-Up Remover is free from skin-drying alcohol and fragrance and a great cleanser for gently removing mascara from sensitive eyes.
