What is alcohol denat?
Under Customs & Excise Law, where alcohol is used in cosmetics which could in theory be drunk, then it has to be treated with a bitter tasting substance to render it unpalatable. When this treatment has been carried out then it is called Alcohol denat. The physical properties of the alcohol are not changed during this process.
Alcohol denat is the same as ethanol or ethyl alcohol. When added to beauty products Alcohol can cause drying of the skin and irritation. It is also a penetration enhancer and can increase the penetration of chemicals and pollutants through the skin.
Some brands may use Alcohol denat in deodorant, hand cream, hair products and face creams and serums.
Green People does not use Alcohol denat in any of its natural and organic beauty products.
